Notice of Passing: Zoning By-law – Site Specific Minor Variance

TAKE NOTICE that the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Huron Shores passed By-law # 12-11 (Note:  to rotate PDF page clockwise right-click on document and choose Rotate Clockwise or press Shift-Control-+)  being a Zoning Amendment for a Site Specific Minor Variance to Thompson Township Zoning By‑law # 87‑7 as amended, on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 in accordance with Section 34 of the Planning Act.

The owner of land described as Part 2 RP 1R-5253 in the SE ¼ Section 17 Thompson Township, within the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the Municipality of Huron Shores, requested the Site Specific Minor Variance to accommodate the existing location of the northeast corner of the residential dwelling unit on the property to allow for an encroachment of the required setback.

Recently Council and Staff hosted a Retirement Party for Assistant Treasurer Laura Miller and her family at the Thessalon Township Community Centre.  Laura joined the Huron Shores team in 2001 but her relationship with then and current Huron Shores Treasurer Sandra Leach extends from the time prior to amalgamation when Sandra was Clerk of Thompson Township, and Laura was part of the auditors’ team.

The Minutes of the Special and Regular Meetings of Council held March 14th, 2012 as well as the Minutes of the Special Council Meeting held March 21st, 2012 were adopted via resolution at the March 28th Regular Meeting of Council.  The March 14th Special Meeting was held to discuss a Zoning Amendment for a Minor Variance application.  The March 21st, 2012 Special Meeting was held to receive information and knowledge on the use of travel trailers/recreational vehicles with regard to the policies for these vehicles in the newly approved Official Plan in order to move forward in implementing the Official Plan.

Dog Found – Updated March 22, 2012

Dog Found 2012-03-20 White with Blue Grey Eyes

We are happy to report that “Rusty” has been reunited with his owner.  Apparently he was spooked by the thunderstorm experienced in the Iron Bridge area earlier this week and went on a tour of the village.  The Municipality reminds dog owners to please ensure that all pets have current dog tags ($3.00/tag if spayed or neutered, $5.00 otherwise).  Tags assist staff in reuniting pets with their owners.  All’s well that ends well.

Iron Bridge Arena Gets New Fire Alarm System

Iron Bridge Arena - 1 Chiblow Lake Rd

A new Fire Alarm System and Emergency Exit Lighting were installed in the Iron Bridge Arena with the financial assistance of the Government of Ontario’s Investing in Ontario Infrastructure Project funding.  The total cost of the project was $20,679.00 of which Investing in Ontario provided $18,300.00.  This natural ice facility hosts public skating during the winter season, community events including the Iron Bridge Fall Fair and large-scale family celebrations.

APPROVED: The New Huron Shores Official Plan

Huron Shores Official PlanThe Huron Shores Official Plan, adopted by Council in 2009 has received final approval from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) and is now in effect.  To complete the Planning Program, the next step is for Council to implement a Comprehensive Zoning By-law.  Please watch for notices on this website and in local media outlets that will announce public meetings scheduled to ensure public input and to meet the requirements of the Planning Act.

Huron Shores vs. Thessalon: Game On!

Annual Hockey Grudge MatchMembers of the Huron Shores Fire Department will face off against their municipal arch rivals, the Thessalon Fire Department, at the Annual Hockey Grudge Match on Saturday, March 17th at the Thessalon Memorial Arena.  Admission is by free-will offering and the proceeds benefit the Thessalon Hospital Auxiliary.  The puck drops at 2:00 p.m.  Come out and cheer on the volunteer firefighters–whichever team wins it’s for a good cause.

2012 Interim Tax Bills & Newsletter

The 2012 Interim Tax Bills are currently being mailed out to all ratepayers.  Installments are due March 30th and May 31st.  Payments accepted in Canadian Funds only, cash, cheque, or electronically via your Canadian financial institution.  For more information regarding tax billing and  assessments please visit the Treasury Department page of this web site.

Included in the mailing with the tax bills is the Municipal Newsletter.  The newsletter contains important information regarding recycling, waste disposal site hours of operation, fire safety, the Huron Shores Family Health Team in Blind River, the new Accessible Customer Service Standard and changes to the Ontario Wildlife Damage Compensation Program.
