Online Fire Permit 2020

The permit will be valid for 1 year, starting on the date that the form is submitted. In order to be considered valid, all renewal information must be consistent with the information at the Municipal Office.

Issued pursuant to By-Law #14-08 and subject to said By-Law and all of the Regulations contained therein.

After submitting the form, you’ll receive an email notification that includes your copy of the Fire Permit.

  • Conditions of Permit

    1. In order to validate your permit, you shall advise the Municipal Office during regular business hours, in advance of each time a burn is to be conducted. You may notify us in person or by calling 705-843-2033, preferably as close as possible to the time you wish to burn.
    2.  This permit shall be kept at the site where the burning is being conducted while the burn is underway and presented, upon demand, to any fire officer for inspection.
    3. No burning is permitted:
      • earlier than 2 hours before sunset and shall ensure the fire is fully extinguished no later than 2 hours after sunrise the following day; and
      • at any time when the winds are or are forecast to be in excess of 16 kilometres per hour.
    4. Item 3 does not apply during the months of December, January, February and March while there is actively falling some form of precipitation, whether it be snow, rain or sleet, or while there is a minimum of 25 millimetres of measurable snow accumulated on the ground at the burn site.
    5. The burn shall be tended to by a responsible person with sufficient persons and tools (i.e. rakes, shovels, pails of water, axes, etc.) to control the fire at all times until it is fully extinguished.
    6. Smoke, heat or ash from the burn: shall not cause irritation to any other person or interfere with any other person’s lawful use and enjoyment of property; and shall not pose a hazard to vehicular traffic using any highway as defined under the Highway Traffic Act.
    7. Burning of piled wood, brush, leaves or discarded wood by-products must:
      • be in a single pile that is less than 2 metres in diameter and less than 2 metres high, unless during the months and under the conditions set out in Item 4, above; and
      • be at least 5 metres from any flammable materials and any building or structure.
    8. Burning of piled wood, brush, leaves or discarded wood by-products in an incinerator must:
      • be at least 10 metres from any forest or woodland; and
      • be at least 5 metres from any flammable material, building or structure.
    9. Burning of grass or leaf litter must:
      • be less than one hectare in area; and
      • have a flaming edge not exceeding 30 metres; and
      • have at least 2 responsible persons tending the fire.
