Welcome, and thank you for visiting our website.
Situated between Sault Ste. Marie, ON to the west and Sudbury, ON to the east, the Municipality of Huron Shores is comprised of some 450 square kilometres which includes settled areas such as Iron Bridge, Little Rapids and Sowerby, surrounded by countryside of agricultural, forested and recreational properties cradled in a dramatic setting of Pre-Cambrian shield topography.
With more than a dozen lakes, two major rivers, numerous streams, creeks, and wetlands, as well as 50 kilometres of scenic Lake Huron coastline, water is and will continue to be, our most valued resource. The water which arises within, and courses through, the Municipality is central to our well being.
Huron Shores’ Official Plan emphasizes the need to conserve and preserve our natural resources while encouraging development which benefits the Municipality. The challenge is to preserve our environmental wealth while minimizing our impact on the wildlife, such as whitetail deer and bald eagles, which live along side us. Council’s aim is to ensure that our resources endure for future residents of, and visitors to, our Municipality.
This website provides access to a variety of Huron Shores information regarding municipal government and administration, municipal services, local attractions and community events. If you choose to subscribe, you will receive regularly updated information on all of these topics via e-mail.
