Algoma Public Health (APH) enforces the provisions of the Building Code Act pertaining to sewage systems. The Code and Guide for Sewage Systems governs the design, construction, operation and maintenance of various classifications of sewage systems located within properties.
APH only addresses sewage systems up to 10,000 litres capacity serving one lot. Systems larger than 10,000 litres per day and off-lot (communal) sewage systems are regulated under the Ontario Water Resources Act. Approvals for systems of this size are issued by the Ministry of the Environment (MOE).
Please visit the Algoma Public Health web page for the complete list of fees, regulations and procedures, listings for septic system contractors, as well as other general information regarding septic systems, sewage disposal, and well-water quality.
