Veterans Week 2024 2024 Veterans’ Week Learning Materials Veterans Affairs Canada has released new remembrance materials for the 2024 Veterans’ Week (November 5-11, 2024). These resources are available both in print and online and include: Take Time to Remember activity booklet (ages 5-7) Tales of Animals in War youth newspaper (ages 8-11) Canada Remembers Times youth newspaper (ages 12-18) Veteran recognition cards and posters Veterans’ Week teacher’s guide Order your print copies or explore digital materials on the Veterans Affairs learning resources page. National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program If you’re planning a Remembrance ceremony, the Department of National Defence offers several options through the National Veterans’ Week Speakers Program. Educators can request: A Canadian Armed Forces speaker video An in-person or virtual presentation from a speaker You can also explore other Veteran speakers from the Memory Project and the Canadian Peacekeeping Veterans Association. New Animated Video for Children Introduce younger students to the concept of remembrance with a brand new animated video featuring the Remembrance Club animals. This engaging video is designed for elementary-aged children and explores themes like: Veterans Peacekeeping War and memorials Recognizing those who served It’s a great tool to use as an introduction to remembrance activities or alongside other commemorative materials for grades K-6. Chocolate for Peace Chocolate for peace is a new activity for ages 8-11 that teaches children how chocolate has provided comfort during times of conflict. For older students (ages 12-18), a lesson on the service and sacrifice of Canadian Veterans is paired with the story of chocolate, exploring the impact of war on civilians and the importance of peace. Royal Canadian Legion National Youth Remembrance Contests The Royal Canadian Legion and the Legion National Foundation are inviting students from kindergarten through grade 12 to participate in the National Youth Remembrance Contests. These contests encourage youth to honour Canada’s Veterans through visual art, writing, and video.
