Ice Safety Reminder ❄️ Due to constant temperature fluctuations, the Huron Shores Fire Department would like to remind everyone to use extreme caution when travelling or playing on ice. Ice conditions can change within hours, even when the surface appears solid. Warmer temperatures, snow cover, and moving water can all weaken ice quickly. 📊 Ice thickness charts are for GUIDELINE PURPOSES ONLY. 🚨 If you fall through the ice:• Stay calm and avoid thrashing• Turn back toward the direction you came from• Kick your legs and pull yourself onto the ice• Once out, roll away from the hole to distribute your weight• Get to warm shelter immediately and seek medical attention 🚨 If someone else falls through the ice:• Call 911 immediately• Do NOT run toward them — this could cause you to fall through as well• Help from a safe distance using a rope, ladder, or long branch• Lie flat to distribute your weight if assisting• Keep the person warm until help arrives 👉 For more ice safety tips and emergency guidance, visit the Huron Shores Fire Department page. When in doubt — stay off the ice.
