Proposed Rural Health Model: Public Community Engagement Sessions The Blind River District Health Centre and the Sault Area Hospital have issued the following joint statement: A number of discussions have taken place over the past two years or more about a potential new rural health model for the Algoma region, specifically the area between Sault Ste. Marie and Blind River. This is in response to feedback from residents and municipal leaders indicating a need for a better appreciation and understanding of the unique aspects of rural communities when making decisions related to delivery of health care services in these areas. During the intervening months, meetings regarding the integration or banding together of the Matthews Memorial and Thessalon Hospital sites together with the Blind River District Health Centre have taken place and a plan has been developed to effect this reorganization. As part of the process, we will be undertaking community engagement sessions to provide details of the plan to all area residents and address any questions or concerns. In an effort to provide maximum opportunities for interested individuals to attend, three sessions have been planned as follows: Tuesday, October 9 – Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Richards Landing Wednesday, October 10 – Oddfellows Hall, Thessalon Thursday, October 11 – Learning Centre, Blind River District Health Centre All sessions will begin at 7:00 p.m. and run for approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
