Due to an increase in motor vehicle accidents, the Huron Shores Fire Department is reminding motorists that road conditions can change rapidly and unexpectedly on any roadway.

These changes may occur due to a variety of factors, including:

  • Temperature fluctuations
  • Time of day
  • Frequency of road travel
  • Climate conditions
  • Road elevation, such as hills or low-lying areas
  • Surrounding factors like trees, shade, or wind exposure
  • When the road was last maintained, including sanding or salting

Although many of these factors are beyond our control, motorists can take proactive steps to reduce risk by adjusting their driving behaviour to suit conditions. Drivers are encouraged to slow down, increase following distance, brake earlier, and allow themselves more time to react.

Please drive with caution and remain alert while travelling throughout the winter season.
