2026 FONOM Conference in Timmins Mayor Jane Armstrong and Councillor Jock Pirrie attended the 2026 Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities (FONOM) Conference in Timmins, joining municipal leaders from across Northern Ontario to discuss shared challenges, opportunities, and advocacy priorities affecting northern communities. The conference featured welcoming remarks from the Mayor of Timmins and keynote speaker Jamie Campbell, whose presentation highlighted leadership, resilience, and the importance of strong community voices in shaping the future of Northern Ontario. Several Provincial and Federal representatives, including MPPs and MPs from across the region, were also in attendance throughout the conference and related discussions. During the conference, Mayor Armstrong and Councillor Pirrie participated in a delegation meeting with Minister Flack of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing alongside Mayor Bird of Thessalon and Mayor Watson of Macdonald, Meredith and Aberdeen Additional. The delegation focused on the growing financial pressures facing small municipalities and the need for a more equitable approach to Provincial cost allocation models. Mayor Armstrong and Councillor Pirrie also attended the NOW (Northern Ontario Women) Dinner, which focused on strengthening the voice of women in municipal politics across Northern Ontario and supporting greater leadership and representation within local government. The Municipality of Huron Shores appreciates the opportunity to participate in these important discussions and continue advocating for sustainable, practical solutions for rural Northern Ontario communities.
