Huron Shores Got It’s Crunch On! Huron Shores Municipal Staff Get Their CRUNCH on! On Thursday, October 26/17 at 2:00 p.m. (on the Dot!) Huron Shores municipal staff got their Big Crunch On! The North Channel Healthy Kids Community Challenge invited everyone to join them for the Great Big Crunch 2017 and to “CRUNCH” a healthy apple with over 2,000 kids from Echo Bay to Blind River. All apples were supplied by the Healthy Kids Community Challenge as part of their theme to “Choose to Boost Your Veggies and Fruit” to encourage children 12 years of age and under to make healthier food choices. Other projects have included funding for purchasing playground equipment, active games supplies, water-bottle filling stations in communities and schools, children’s poster contests, community gardens, and subsidizing the monthly Good Food Box Program (a fundraiser for the Sault Ste. Marie Community Soup Kitchen). The next theme is to encourage children (and adults) to cut down on their “screen time” and get active. Funding for the Healthy Kids Community Challenge program is provided by a grant from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
