$100,000.00 FEDNOR Canada 150 Grant Gives Huron Shores Ward 4 Recreation (Fitness) Centre a Boost On Saturday, June 2, 2018, the Ward 4 Recreation Centre Committee welcomed members of the public to the Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the newly renovated Fitness Centre. Mayor Gil Reeves was on hand to congratulate the Committee Members and thank the Government of Canada/FEDNOR through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program for its funding contribution to the renovation and renewal of the fitness centre. The interior renovations to the facility included new insulation, drywall, flooring, painting, and mechanical and electrical upgrades. Exterior work involved replacing the roofing, siding, trim, windows, doors, upgrades to the accessible ramp, and concrete walkways. A new air conditioning system has also been installed. The Recreation Centre, located at 23802 Highway 17, (0.5 km east of the Dean Lake Road intersection), is the former Thompson Township Municipal Office/Community Centre. Fitness Centre members have access to a variety of exercise equipment including treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, various weights, dumb bells, as well as a TV with a library of exercise DVDs. Monthly $10 memberships may be paid at the Municipal Office with access available 24 hours/day, 7 days/week. The Recreation Centre is well-utilized by both Huron Shores’ residents and non-residents alike. The Municipality of Huron Shores is committed to preserving and enhancing this facility, improving its energy efficiency, and ensuring that it remains accessible and available for use by the public for years to come.
