With fall being a busy time for hunting 🦃🦌, the Municipality of Huron Shores wants to remind everyone of the important regulations outlined in By-Law #10-52 regarding the discharge of firearms and bows. This by-law is crucial for ensuring public safety during this period.

Discharge Restrictions:

  • Firearms and Bows: The discharge of any firearm or bow is prohibited within the areas specified in Schedule ‘A’ of this by-law.
  • Projectiles: It is also prohibited to discharge a firearm or bow in a manner that allows projectiles to enter these restricted areas.

Exemptions:

The by-law does not affect the duties of peace officers or actions taken to address the safety of persons and/or property arising from nuisance animals attacks.

Definitions:

  • “Bow” means a weapon of curved, and sometimes recurved, stave of resilient material, strung taut from end to end and used to launch an arrow, bolt, quarrel or similar projectile, that is capable of causing bodily injury or death to a person, and includes cross bows, long bows, recurve and compound bows.
  • “Firearm” means any barreled weapon from which any shot, bullet or projectile or other missile can be discharged that is capable of causing bodily injury or death to a person and includes any frame or receiver of such a barreled weapon.

Enforcement and Penalties:

  • Violations of this by-law are subject to penalties under the Provincial Offences Act.
