The Municipality of Huron Shores is considering a municipality-wide amendment to Zoning By-law 26-10, as amended, to update the Waste Management Buffer Zone Overlay (WMB) surrounding the Municipality’s four landfill sites.

The proposed amendment will update the mapping of the buffer areas based on revised landfill footprint information prepared by the Municipality’s solid waste management consultant. The purpose of the buffer areas is to help ensure compatibility between landfill operations and nearby land uses, while protecting the long-term operation of these important municipal facilities.

The amendment does not change the 500 metre buffer distance established in the Zoning By-law. Rather, it updates the location of the overlay based on more accurate information regarding the approved landfilling areas. In most cases, the revised mapping results in a reduction in the area affected by the overlay.

A Special Public Meeting will be held July 8th, 2026 at 7pm before the Regular Council Meeting to consider the proposed amendment. Residents are encouraged to review the proposed mapping and provide comments prior to Council making a decision.
