Fire Prevention Week | October 4–10, 2026

Fire Prevention Week is here! This year, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is focusing on the safe use and charging of lithium-ion batteries and the everyday steps we can take to help prevent battery-related fires.

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the items we use every day, including cell phones, laptops, tablets, wireless headphones, power tools, toys, e-bikes and e-scooters. These batteries store a significant amount of energy in a small space. If a battery is damaged, improperly charged or used with incompatible charging equipment, it can overheat and potentially cause a fire.

Throughout Fire Prevention Week, the Municipality of Huron Shores will be sharing information from NFPA to help residents learn more about safely purchasing, charging and using rechargeable devices.

Fire safety can start with something as simple as taking a closer look at the devices and chargers you use every day.
