UPDATE:  October 3, 2013:  The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  All Municipal roads are open.   While work has been undertaken on Hamilton Lake Road and Lake 11 Road rendering said roads passable to the limit of municipal maintenance;  they remain in a limited use status for those vehicles that had previously traversed these roads i.e. 4-wheel drives and ATVs etc., in order to access bush lots.  Precipitation is forecast over the next 48 hours and wash-outs could develop on any of the municipal roads.  Travellers should exercise extreme caution, drive slowly, and be alert for public works equipment and personnel, oncoming vehicles, traffic cones and barricades.

UPDATE:  September 20, 2013:  The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  All Municipal roads are open and are expected to be open during the weekend with the  exception of Hamilton Lake Road and Lake 11 Road.  The Municipality requests that heavy commercial vehicles (i.e. tractor trailers, logging trucks) refrain from travelling on the municipal side roads. Rainfall is predicted for the next 24 hours and wash-outs could develop.  Travellers should exercise extreme caution, drive slowly, and be alert for public works equipment and personnel, oncoming vehicles, traffic cones and barricades.

UPDATE:  September 19, 2013:  The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  A portion of Sunset Beach Road is currently closed today but is expected to be open later this afternoon, from approximately 100 meters south of its intersection at Highway 17.  Access to the remainder of Sunset Beach Road as available from Highway 17 via Bright Lake Road.  Melwel Road is now open but will be closed beginning at 8:30 a.m., Friday, September 20th for several hours.  The closure will be approximately 5.5 km from the Highway 17 intersection, near Red Rock Lake, southeast of the intersection with Club House Road.  Road repair work is ongoing and temporary road closures will occur.  Due to the short term nature of many of the closures, not all closures will be posted on this website.  If appointments require you to travel the municipal road system please contact the Municipal Office (705-843-2033) to inquire as to temporary road closures.

The Municipality requests that travellers use extreme caution, drive slowly, and be alert for public works equipment and personnel, oncoming vehicles, traffic cones and barricades.  Be aware that wash-outs could still develop.  In addition, reduced speeds will assist in keeping dust levels to a minimum.    Please report any unmarked areas of concern to the Municipal Office.  Your assistance and understanding during this time is greatly appreciated.

UPDATE:  September 18, 2013:  The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  Please note that a portion of Melwel Road is temporarily closed to allow for a culvert replacement.  The road is closed approximately 5 km from its intersection at Highway 17, just past Melwel Lodge.  Basswood Lake Road is now open.  The Municipality requests that heavy commercial vehicles (i.e. tractor trailers, logging trucks) refrain from travelling on the municipal side roads.  Please note that road repair work is ongoing and temporary closures will occur.  If appointments require you to travel the municipal road system please contact the Municipal Office (705-843-2033) to inquire as to temporary road closures.

UPDATE:  September 16, 2013:   The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  All Municipal roads, excepting Hamilton Lake Road and Lake 11 Road, are now open to local traffic.  Basswood Lake Road is also temporarily closed to allow for a culvert replacement.  Please note that you may experience short delays on other roads to allow for continued repair works.  Many roads are open to one lane of traffic only. UPDATE:  September 12, 2013:  The Municipality of Huron Shores remains under a local state of emergency.  One Municipal road remains CLOSED:  Ansonia Road from its intersection with Hopper Road to MacLean Road.  All other Municipal roads are now open to local traffic only.  In addition, the Municipality  asks that individuals avoid using Ingram Road if at all possible as Public Works crews and heavy machinery are still repairing that road.  Please note that many roads are open to one lane of traffic only. Travellers must use extreme caution, drive slowly and be alert for oncoming vehicles, traffic cones and barricades.

Through traffic MUST continue to utilize the Detour around Highway 17.  Please DO NOT use GPS devices to attempt to navigate off the signed Detour as many of the side roads do not accommodate highway vehicles.

All Roads in the Municipality of Huron Shores continue to be affected by the recent rainfall.

As of 10:00 a.m. today, the following roads remain CLOSED in the Municipality of Huron Shores:

– Jarrett Drive;
– Ansonia Road from its intersection with Hopper Road to MacLean Road
– North Livingstone Road;
– Myers Road below MacKay Drive; and
– Basswood Lake Road

There are other roads open to one lane of traffic only and persons having to travel must take extreme caution and travel at reduced speeds, until road conditions stabilize. Please be on the alert for Public Works equipment on the roads and watch for signs, cones and barricades at many locations.
