Huron Shores Fire Dept. Swings into Summer Safety On Wednesday, June 10th, 2015, Huron Shores Fire Department personnel participated in the Ontario Fire Marshal’s “Swing into Summer Safety ” Campaign by hosting Mrs. Elkin’s Grade 3/4 class from Thessalon Public School at the Little Rapids Fire Station. The students assisted with equipment demonstrations, practiced the proper method of escaping from a burning building by crawling across the floor, enjoyed pizza and snacks and everyone received a Swing into Summer Safety T-shirt, a Swing into Summer Safety collector tumbler and a set of Toronto Blue Jays baseball cards with summer safety tips printed on them. The Fire Department had asked each student to write a short paragraph and draw a picture explaining what Summer Safety meant to them. The top five entries each received a Blue Jays baseball cap, and the Grand Prize winner received 4 field level tickets to a Blue Jays game. The Grand Prize Winner’s message was about camp fire safety. The Fire Department personnel were impressed by the quality and in-depth knowledge the students displayed in their assignments. Sparky, the Fire Safety Dog, made a guest appearance to hand out the prizes.
