Clean Yard By-Law Compliance and Disciplinary Actions As part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and enjoyable environment for all residents, we would like to remind you of the important details regarding our Clean Yard By-Law. Compliance Requirements The Clean Yard By-Law is designed to ensure that all properties within our municipality are kept in a tidy and orderly condition. This includes, but is not limited to: Grass and Weeds: Grass and weeds must be maintained at a reasonable height. Additionally, property owners are required to remove or destroy any noxious weeds located on their land to prevent the spread of harmful vegetation. Garbage and Debris: Properties must be kept free of accumulated garbage, litter, and debris. This includes ensuring that all refuse is either contained or screened according to the instructions of an authorized Officer. No waste should be thrown, placed, dumped, or deposited on highways, private property, or municipal property without proper authority. Vehicles and Equipment: Non-operational vehicles and equipment should not be stored in public view. Specifically, land should be kept free from inoperative motor vehicles, boats, and trailers, whether they are intended to be wrecked, dismantled, or discarded. Exceptions are made for inoperative motor vehicles or boats being restored, provided they are stored in a backyard and not visible to the public. Structures and Buildings: All structures and buildings must be maintained in good repair and free of unsightly conditions. This includes ensuring that buildings are not used for dumping, disposing, or storing waste. Structures used by the Municipality or designated by by-law for waste disposal are exceptions. Stagnant Water: Properties must be kept free of stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding. This can be done by draining the water or implementing a mosquito control strategy approved by an authorized Officer. This requirement does not apply to lands designated as Environmental Protection areas or wetlands as specified in the Municipality’s Official Plan. Compliance Clauses It is important to note that the Clean Yard By-Law includes specific compliance clauses that require property owners to adhere to these standards. Non-compliance can result in disciplinary action to ensure that the standards of our community are upheld. Disciplinary Action Failure to comply with the Clean Yard By-Law may result in the following actions: Notice of Violation: A formal notice will be issued to the property owner outlining the specific areas of non-compliance. Fines: Continued non-compliance may result in fines being imposed. Municipal Intervention: In extreme cases, the municipality may undertake the necessary work to rectify the situation, and the cost will be charged to the property owner.
