As Emergency Preparedness Week comes to a close, residents are encouraged to take time to create or review their household emergency plans.

Emergencies can happen quickly, and having a plan in place can help reduce confusion and improve safety during stressful situations.

Your household emergency plan should include:
✔️ Emergency contact information
✔️ Family meeting locations
✔️ Evacuation routes and alternate routes
✔️ Plans for children, seniors, pets, and livestock
✔️ Important medical and personal information
✔️ Communication plans if household members are separated

It is also important to discuss emergency procedures with everyone in your household so that each person understands what to do during different emergency situations.

Preparedness is an ongoing process, and even small steps can make a big difference during emergencies. Residents who may require additional assistance during an emergency are also encouraged to learn more about the Vulnerable Persons Registry. This voluntary and confidential program helps first responders better support individuals who may need extra assistance during emergency situations.

The Municipality of Huron Shores encourages residents to continue learning about emergency preparedness and to remain informed throughout the year.
