Fire Prevention Week: Know When to Stop Using a Battery 🛑 A damaged or failing lithium-ion battery can sometimes provide warning signs before a serious problem occurs. According to NFPA, stop using a rechargeable device or battery if it becomes very hot, begins to swell, develops an unusual smell, leaks, smokes or makes popping or hissing sounds. These may be signs that the battery is damaged or failing and could potentially overheat or start a fire. Don’t continue charging or using a device that appears damaged or is behaving unusually. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for handling the device and disposing of the battery safely. It’s also a good idea to regularly inspect rechargeable devices and chargers for visible damage. If something doesn’t look, smell or sound right, stop using it. 🛑 Learn more about Fire Prevention Week from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
