As Fire Prevention Week comes to an end, the Municipality of Huron Shores and the Huron Shores Fire Department encourage residents to carry this year’s fire safety reminders with them throughout the year.

Rechargeable devices have become part of everyday life, and a few simple habits can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires:

  • Choose products that meet recognized safety standards.
  • Use the charger supplied with or approved for your device.
  • Charge devices on a hard, flat surface.
  • Unplug devices once they are fully charged.
  • Keep exits clear when charging larger items.
  • Stop using batteries that become unusually hot, swollen, damaged, leaking or otherwise show signs of a problem.

Working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan also remain important parts of protecting your household.

As we wrap up Fire Prevention Week, the Municipality would also like to recognize the Huron Shores Fire Department and thank our volunteer firefighters for their ongoing commitment to fire prevention, public education and emergency response throughout our community.

Fire Prevention Week may be ending, but safe habits should continue all year long. 🔥🧯
