Alzheimer's Disease The Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Huron Shores at the January 8th, 2014 Regular Meeting passed Resolution #14-01-13 as follows:

“WHEREAS common stereotypes and misinformation about dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease, foster feelings of shame, rejection, and embarrassment in people living with the disease;

AND WHEREAS dementia does not define the person;

AND WHEREAS fear of exclusion or being treated differently prevents people with dementia from seeking the help they need or disclosing their disease;

AND WHEREAS talking about dementia openly and honestly helps to dispel inaccurate information, change attitudes, and promote a better understanding of the disease;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Municipality of Huron Shores does hereby proclaim the month of January, 2014, as National Alzheimer Awareness Month and does urge all citizens of our community to become more aware and educated concerning the early signs and symptoms and far-reaching effects of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.”
