Chimney Safety With the crisp weather upon us, and many residents utilizing their household fireplace, the Huron Shores Fire Department would like to remind you that chimney fires are a dangerous and serious problem. The good news is that they are almost entirely preventable by practicing the following recommendations: Only use seasoned, dry wood, newspapers and dry kindling – Burning cardboard boxes, regular trash or wrapping paper will cause the creation of excess creosote and put your home and family in danger Ensuring your chimney is clean – Regular inspections and cleanings are necessary to ensure you and your home have a safe and happy winter season Thank you, Huron Shores Fire Department
